Presentation på Plan Somoto

Här kommer presentationen som jag skrev och höll
på Plan Somoto i Nicaragua.

Is it possible to be happy even though you are poor?

We spent ten days in a village called Castillito. Before we got
there we knew it would be a poor village, but it wasn't until we
finally got there as we realized the real meaning of the word
poverty.

We saw  people of all ages carry heavy blocks of concrete,
people with worn-out and dirty clothes and many of them
missed several teeth.

For a couple of days we went observing the village and its
environment. We wanted people to be comfortable with us
being there before we started with the interviews.
We interviewed children, housewives, single mothers, farmers
and the small mayor.
Something we've been thinking about is that the village really
is poor. But inside there are notable differences too.

Something else we have realized is that you need the basics,
such as water, food, a deasant house, health and education
to be happy.

In Castillito there are people with all these basics, but there
are also people who don't. For an example we have Ramón,
a 69-year-old man. He told us that there are times when he
can't feed his family.

Our question is: as a supporter of a family, is it possible to be
happy when you and your children are still hungry?
Ramón said that he always wakes up happy because God
says he has to.
Is that real happiness?

Those are some thoughts we now have in mind after our
fieldstudies.
